Champagne Henri Goutorbe is a small family owned and operated winery in the idyllic town of Aÿ. Aÿ is located a few kilometres north of Epernay in the heart of Champagne.
The Goutorbe family business began as a viticultural nursery. At the end of World War 1 Emile Goutorbe, who was the Chief viticulturist with Perrier Jouët, started his own nursery. Emile bought small parcels of vineyard when it was possible. His son Henri established the Goutorbe label towards the end of the 1940's. An initial small production of 4000 bottles per year was used to supplement the income from the nursery.
Today, Champagne Henri Goutorbe is owned and managed by René Goutorbe along with his wife Nicole and their children Elisabeth and Etienne. The total vineyard area is 22 hectares comprising 70% Pinot Noir, 27% Chardonnay and 3% Pinot Meunier, with a current production of 200,000 bottles.
